Ahead of the last race of the season for Team BRIT and racing driver Aaron Morgan, we put Aaron in the hot seat to reflect on his previous year of racing. The final round of the Britcar Endurance Championship takes place on Saturday 23rd at Donington Park - good luck to Team BRIT and Aaron!
What's has been your favourite race of the year?
My favourite race has definitely been the first one at Oulton Park. I had to do a long stint under considerable pressure from second place but bringing the car across the line in first place gave me such a buzz. It also felt like an amazing reward for the hard work I put in during my stint and all the efforts of the entire team over the weekend.
What's been your worst race of the year?
I don’t really think of any races as the ‘worst one’ as I just love the experience, but probably the one that was the most challenging was the second race at Oulton Park After having such a great first race and celebrating with the whole team and sponsors, to not finish the second race due to a mistake which I made was really disappointing. I had been able to absorb the pressure I was under in the first race and use it to my advantage, but unfortunately cracked under the pressure the second time.
Has this season turned out how you hoped at the start?
The season so far has gone much better than expected! Last year we were able to achieve a few class podiums but to have two class wins so far this season and have competed for the podium at every round is way beyond what I could have dreamed of. We are currently sitting in 4th in our class championship and within touching distance of the leaders.
What are your hopes for the final round of the year?
Everyone within the team is going to be giving their all at the final round to give us the best chance possible. If we can secure two strong results and others go our way, then we could win the 2021 Britcar Endurance Championship. We have as much chance as anyone else, and no one will work as hard us to get there.
Team Brit recently revealed their plans to race in the British GT Championship in 2022, how excited are you to take this next step?
It's incredibly exciting to be racing in this championship next year, and not only that but in a Mclaren too. The championship races at the most prestigious tracks in the UK with an international race too. I think Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium is the best track in the world so to drive it myself is going to be amazing. It has been so motivating to be part of a team which always look for improvement and the next challenge. Next year is going to be a big jump both for the car and competition on the track, but with this team I know we're going to do amazingly well.
If someone told you in 2006 when you were in hospital, that 16 years in the future you would be racing in the British GT Championship would you have believed them?
Never in a million years! I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has had a part in my journey to where I am, none more so than my sponsors Rhino Products for their support
